Rolling Green Village – Expanding on Southern Hospitality

Expansion Taking Shape as First Residents Move In

Terry and Chris McGrath have spent the last two years planning for their big move to a new cottage at Rolling Green Village, a retirement community in Greenville, SC.  The couple previously lived in a 55+ community, but say the decision to move into Rolling Green Village’s multimillion-dollar expansion was made easier because of the many benefits the community offers. The McGraths are now the first couple to occupy one of the 23 brand-new cottages.
As they unpack their boxes, they look forward to making new memories in their home at Rolling Green Village. They’re excited to meet and mingle with the more than 300 residents who already call the community home, and to meet the 100 others who will soon move into the new development.

Meet Your New Neighbors: Terry and Chris McGrath

Chris McGrath can remember the first time her husband brought up the idea of moving to Rolling Green Village. “I was not in favor of the move,” she says laughing. “I, like many in my generation, had this vision of the community being an ‘old folks’ home. When I visited, I was pleasantly surprised. Rolling Green Village is the best of both worlds, providing security and independence.”
Chris, who’s a retired office manager and her husband, Terry, a retired salesman for an IT company, say the decision to move to Rolling Green Village was based on their life planning research and the continuum of care (CCRC) offered.
“We know we’re doing our children a favor by moving to Rolling Green Village,” said Terry. “We knew we would need to move sometime, so why not move when we could enjoy all the amenities at the community.”
As a Life Plan Community, Rolling Green Village offers residents an active, independent lifestyle, free from worries about their future health care needs. Residents have lifelong access to a full continuum of care on campus at the Rolling Green Village Health Center, which includes assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing and rehabilitation.

“We’re still pretty active,” said Terry. “But it’s nice to know that the care is there if and when we need it.”

Currently the couple – especially Chris – are enjoying decorating their new home.

“I love our hardwood floors,” said Chris. “I was amazed by the number of choices offered to us. From the floors to the paint color to the countertops, this cottage is truly us.”

As they look around their home, they point out the top-notch fixtures and the crown molding that fills each room. “The construction is absolutely beautiful,” said Terry. “We’re very pleased with the final product.”

Chris says the Rolling Green Village maintenance and security team has greeted them with the Southern hospitality they expect. “The maintenance people have helped me hang up pictures and decorate,” she exclaimed. “They’re so caring and courteous. That’s probably one of the best parts of Rolling Green Village, the people.”
When the McGraths aren’t inside their home, they look forward to enjoying the plethora of activities and amenities offered on the 175-acre campus. The expansion will offer residents more dining venues, including an open-kitchen design and a bistro. Residents will also enjoy a new arts and crafts studio, salon, billiards and game rooms, and various multipurpose spaces.

“I look forward to long walks around the lakes and walking paths,” said Terry.

Chris, who enjoys art, has already made friends with the art teacher and several of the students. “I look forward to joining the painting and watercolor classes,” she says. “The teacher has already connected with me and made me feel very welcome.”
